Economy & consumer confidence in TV

The US media has so far increased its rating for the economy in May. With CCI figures in April already showed consumers prepared to take the money out from under the mattress and wit the media showing it is not all bad, perhaps a consumer led recovery is possible.
May´s TV rating of the UK remains at a banana republic level of -50%. From the messages they are getting from TV, the expectation should be that UK consumers will stay depressed and with MP´s no longer able to spend government money, where is the hope of recovery?
Basis: Statements on economies: 17650 US TV / 3564 UK TV Period of analysis: Jan 1, 2007 - May 15 2009
