On September 15th and 16th Medien Tenor, in conjunction with the University of Leipzig, sponsored Agenda Setting 2000, a conference designed to analyze and discuss the power of mass media in setting social agendas and the importance of media in the formation of public opinion.
Political and communication scientists from the London School of Economics, Columbia University, and Jerusalem University, along with professors, journalists, businesses, and students from more than five countries, met in Leipzig, Germany to discuss topics of media and public opinion with some of the country’s most respected politicians, managers and journalists.
Among the topics discussed were:
1. elections and public opinions,
2. the building of country images,
3. the appearance of enterprises in the media and
4. racism and hostility against foreigners.
In all four subject groups professors and scientist were asked to contribute papers, which can be found through the following link (conference material), in one of the four categories, depending on their area of expertise. Two days of pleneary and breakout sessions were spent discussing each topic extensively from a local and international perspective.
